Hoshiyo Dining Lounge is at 22 Street 29 in An Khanh Ward, the former District 2 near Tran Nao, on the far bank of the Saigon River from Landmark 81. The gate is tucked down an alley beside a pickleball court and looks ordinary from the street, which catches some first-timers off guard; there is parking, and it helps to call ahead for directions. Google Maps lists 5pm to midnight daily, while the venue's homepage says 1am, splitting the night into dinner from 5pm and the lounge from 10pm, so confirm the closing time when you book.

The name comes from the Japanese for a starry night, and the ceiling is scattered with tiny lights to match, while big windows frame Landmark 81, a slice of Saigon Marina and the river after dark. Early evening is a Japanese dinner of sushi, sashimi, chawanmushi and wagyu rolls, sometimes with a violinist; later the room turns into a lounge, at times with a DJ and dance acts. It is a favourite for dates, birthdays, anniversaries and even proposals, and table decorations or a cake can be arranged with notice. Spending runs on the high side, so it is best saved for an occasion.

Groups sit together on sofas and can still talk, and the look is a fashion-magazine mix of deep crimson and ivory. Hours are 8pm to 2am nightly.

The playlist is pop-house, disco-funk and festival sing-alongs, broken up by sudden confetti drops and a photobooth for group pictures. There is a Ladies Night, Fettival Sunday with confetti on the hour, and seasonal guest DJs. Sofa Lounge seats two to four; the VIP sofa is the birthday option.

The Wann, at 74-76 Nam Ky Khoi Nghia, opens at 6pm and closes at 2am, and the first half of the evening is genuinely about food. The fusion menu runs past 100 Asian and European dishes: crab glass noodles, Hong Kong-style roast pigeon, grilled Fuji beef, seafood, set menus for four to ten people and a separate vegetarian list. Early on, the room is for eating and conversation; later, the central stage and DJs lift the volume.
