Hanoi nightlife 2026: an Old Quarter route through 23 bars and clubs

Cloud Sky Bar Hanoi sits up on level 9 of the JM Marvel Hotel, 16 Hang Da, on the Train Street side of the Old Quarter: by the bar's reckoning the railway tracks squeezed between houses are about 400 m on foot, and Hoan Kiem Lake around 700 m. Walk into the hotel lobby and take the lift up. From the terrace the Old Quarter turns into a patchwork of tiled roofs, and at dusk you can watch the streets below light up one by one.

On this route it is an early opener, alongside Ignite and second only to Upper Haven: the doors open at 4 PM (the hotel's page says 3:30 PM) and close at midnight. Come up for the sunset, order Vietnamese food cooked by VIET Restaurant in the same building, with the kitchen taking orders until 9:30 PM, then head back down to Ma May or Ta Hien as the clubs open. Loungers suit couples and long tables suit groups; there is no dance floor and no regular DJ. Early-evening tables fill quickly, so book ahead if you are coming as a group.

Ta Hien is a short street at the heart of the Old Quarter, and No. 8B is the Quang Lac theatre, built in the early 20th century. In the 1990s the building became Hanoi Roxy, and since 2016 it has carried the name 1900 Le Théâtre. The front does not look like a typical club entrance, so type the name into Google Maps to land at the right door. From Hoan Kiem Lake it is a five to seven minute walk; in the evening the street is narrow and crowded, so expect to move slowly.

On this route, 1900 is the main dance stop. It opens 9 PM to 3 AM every night and plays House and Techno around a DJ podium raised in the centre of the old auditorium. Visit Ma May or Dao Duy Tu first, then come in once the night has warmed up. Ladies' Night falls on Tuesday and Wicked Weekend covers Friday and Saturday; on guest-artist nights, ask about the entry policy before you go.

Skyline Hanoi tops the Tirant Hotel at 38 Gia Ngu (the venue's site says 36B), on what travel sites call the 11th floor. Gia Ngu is an Old Quarter street a few minutes' walk from Hoan Kiem Lake, so from up here you see the lake, the old roofs and, when the air is clear, Long Bien Bridge. Running since 2013 and refitted after Covid, the space now divides into a dining room with big windows, a sofa corner, an uncovered deck and a small pool on the roof.

On this route Skyline is the dinner-with-a-view stop. The evening booking window on its site runs 5 PM to 9:30 PM, and the menu covers Western and Vietnamese dishes, from pizza, pasta and salmon to bun cha and pho. Music is gentle, there is no dance floor and families come too, so it works for dinner before the group splits up for the night. Afterwards Ma May and Ta Hien are a short walk away. Lake-view tables go first; mention it when you book.

Binh Minh Jazz Club is at 1A Trang Tien (many travel sites say No. 1), tucked behind the Hanoi Opera House beside the Hilton; the area was Phan Chu Trinh Ward until July 2025 and is now Cua Nam. Walk the length of Trang Tien from the lake and you are there. This is a listening room, not a dance floor: around fifty rattan chairs face a low stage, the floor is black-and-white tile, jazz portraits cover the walls and the club's name glows red above the band.

On this route Binh Minh opens the evening south of the lake: the band starts at 9 PM every night, holidays included, and the doors close at 11:15 PM, early enough to stroll along Trang Tien to Cosmos or over to Block B on Ly Thuong Kiet as the clubs fill up. Expect standards, Latin jazz, funk and blues next to Vietnamese songs reworked for a jazz band; Quyen Thien Dac, son of founder Quyen Van Minh, sets the line-up each evening. A per-guest music charge applies, confirmed with your booking, and arriving before the first set gets you closer to the stage.

Lighthouse Sky Bar sits on the roof of La Siesta Premium at 27 Hang Be. Under French rule this was Rue des Radeaux, the street where wooden rafts were traded, and the bar borrows the story: the whole terrace is built as a boat, with a red-and-white lighthouse as the landmark you can spot from below. Ma May and Ta Hien are a few minutes away on foot, which makes it a handy place to watch the sun go down before heading into the streets. It opens 5 PM to midnight, every day of the week.

On this route it is the slow, seated opener: quiet chill-out music, no dance floor, sofa clusters for groups and the odd live-music night on special dates. Food is snacks such as Hanoi spring rolls, fresh or fried, and grilled chicken skewers, enough to tide you over rather than a full dinner. Stay until the Old Quarter lights up, then stroll over to Ma May as Hybra Ultra opens at 8:30 PM. Bigger groups should call ahead so a sofa cluster is kept free.

The Haflington is at 94 Hang Ma, in the middle of the Old Quarter. The door is tucked away, reached through a slim passage and up a timber staircase, so someone from the bar often stands outside to wave guests in. The main counter is on the third floor, in an attic room lined with glass cases of fossils and old books, right beneath a dinosaur skeleton; the second floor is calmer and has private rooms. Doors open at 3 PM daily and close at 1 AM, the joint earliest start on this route with the Upper Haven rooftop.

On this route The Haflington is the afternoon stop: come while it is still light, when daylight falls through the exposed ceiling and the skeleton is easy to see. It is a place for conversation, with no music programme and house rules on photos and on keeping voices down. Since reaching No. 47 on Asia's 50 Best Bars in 2024 it draws plenty of visitors, and third-floor counter seats are hard to get on Friday and Saturday nights. From here, Ma May and Ta Hien are a walk away when the clubs open.

Moonlight Sky Bar sits eleven floors up in La Siesta Classic, the hotel at 94 Ma May, on the same street as Hybra Ultra Lounge (No. 32), MidNight Club (No. 46) and The Diners Club (No. 56). That means you can look down on the very streets you are about to explore and then simply take the lift down into the night. It is open 5 PM to midnight daily, and beyond the Old Quarter roofs the terrace also takes in Hoan Kiem Lake, the Red River and Long Bien Bridge.

On this route Moonlight doubles as the sunset and dinner stop: the kitchen can do a proper meal, from pan-seared salmon or beef tenderloin to a three-course set, with grilled prawns and pork cheek for the table. Guests sit around an eight-sided counter beneath a model of Long Bien Bridge; ordinary nights are low-key, and DJs only appear for holidays. After dinner, Hybra Ultra on the same street opens at 8:30 PM, with the clubs following soon after.

Upper Haven Sky Bar crowns the May De Ville Crown, a hotel at No. 21 Luong Ngoc Quyen, deep in the Old Quarter core in what used to be Hang Buom Ward. Luong Ngoc Quyen cuts straight across Ta Hien, so the moment you leave the lobby you are in the middle of the busiest nightlife cluster, with Ma May a short walk on. Up top there is an outdoor area looking down over the tiled roofs and a warm, wood-finished room inside, so an afternoon shower does not end the plan.

On this route Upper Haven shares the afternoon slot with The Haflington: it opens at 3 PM and closes at midnight daily, so you can arrive in daylight, stay until the street below lights up, then walk straight down to Ta Hien as the clubs open. There is no regular DJ or band and the music stays light; snacks are served at the bar, enough to tide you over before dinner. For a birthday or private party on the roof, mention it when you book, along with whether you want to sit outside or in.

Hybra Ultra Lounge is at 32 Ma May Street in Hoan Kiem Ward, which was Hang Buom Ward until July 2025. Inside, the owners have built a whole island: real plants climb the walls, fishing nets, beach balls and life rings hang from the ceiling, flags from many countries stretch overhead, and there is a disco ball and red velvet curtains. The most unusual detail is the long bar counter in the middle of the room, which doubles as the stage. The DJ sets up on top of it, and MCs, singers and the band perform right beside the people sitting around it.

It opens 8:30 PM to 2 AM daily, half an hour before the Old Quarter clubs, which makes it a natural first stop. Expect Hip-hop, R&B, Pop and House, plus live band and guest-artist nights. The upper floor is more private and looks down on the room, good for larger groups, while the counter seats are the first to go. This is not the same venue as HYBRA On Top in O Cho Dua.

Nê is at 3B Tong Duy Tan, near the Train Street area; before July 2025 the address was in Hang Bong Ward. Compared with the Ma May and Ta Hien core it lies well to the west, a short taxi ride or a longer walk, and a barred door with a neon sign is what to look for. Open since May 2017, it has only about 40 seats, nearly all around the counter so you can watch every glass being made. Hours are usually given as 7:30 PM to 2 AM, though one guide lists a 6 PM start, so check when you book.

On this route Nê is the late stop for people who would rather sit at a counter than dance. Bartender Pham Tien Tiep leads the team and created the house signature inspired by pho, poured through three tiers of flame. There is a small stage for live music and the occasional guest-bartender night. With so few seats, groups larger than four should book early; if it is full, the sister bar Nê Boong-ke at 12 Cua Dong is the nearest alternative. Leaving at 2 AM still gives you time for MidNight on Ma May.

Sicily Chamber Bar is at 9 Au Trieu in Hoan Kiem Ward (formerly Hang Trong), the lane curling behind St Joseph's Cathedral. Compared with the Ma May and Ta Hien cluster it sits off to the west side of Hoan Kiem Lake, a few minutes on foot from the water. The room is compact, wood-brown and softly lit, tidy and full of photo corners. Our listing has it open 6 PM to 2 AM, while Google Maps shows 5 PM to 3 AM, so check when you book.

On this route Sicily is the counter stop for anyone heading towards the cathedral: tell the bartender whether you lean sour, sweet or light and they will build a glass around it, which is why people turn up alone without feeling out of place. The music changes from night to night and can be loud when the speakers sit right over your table, so ask for a quieter corner if you want to talk. Groups are better off at a table than on the stools. From here it is a short walk round the lake to Hang Dau or down towards Trang Tien.

The Diners Club is at 56 Ma May Street, on the same stretch as Hybra Ultra Lounge at No. 32 and MidNight Club at No. 46. It works in two parts: a proper dinner first, then a lounge mood once the plates are cleared, so you do not have to change venues halfway through the evening. Hoan Kiem Lake and Ta Hien are a few minutes away on foot, which suits anyone whose hotel is in the Old Quarter and who would like to walk back afterwards instead of calling a car.

On this route it is the dinner stop in the heart of the Old Quarter, before you carry on to the clubs on the same street. Its opening hours are not confirmed yet, so ask when you book. Weekend evenings and anniversary tables are usually reserved in advance; if you are marking a special occasion, tell us early.

Terraço Sky Bar is up on the 8th floor of La Sinfonía del Rey at 33–35 Hang Dau, right where the Old Quarter runs into Hoan Kiem Lake. That spot makes it the hinge between the two loops of this route: the Ma May and Ta Hien core above, the clubs around Trang Tien and Cua Nam below. From the railing you look straight down on Ngoc Son Temple. It opens 5 PM to midnight all week, holidays included.

On this route Terraço is best on Friday, when the resident DJ plays, or Saturday, when a band is on from 8:30 PM to 10:30 PM: watch the lake change colour at dusk, order cha ca or bun cha from the hotel kitchen, then stroll along the water down to Trang Tien and Cosmos Club. Other nights have only soft jazz, which suits a date more than a warm-up. The Rooftop Guide lists smart casual, so leave the sportswear behind.

The pool bar of Fairmont Hanoi sits up on the roof of the hotel at 10 Tran Nguyen Han, in the French Quarter east of Hoan Kiem Lake; the hotel opened in February 2026 as the first Fairmont in Vietnam. The counter runs along an infinity pool, with the Old Quarter and the central skyline out in front. The deck mixes loungers among the plants with outdoor dining tables, bigger parties can request a cabana, and the pool itself is for hotel guests only.

On this route the Pool Terrace is the sunset stop for anyone starting on the east side: it serves from 5 PM to midnight all week and welcomes non-residents. The kitchen goes Pan-Asian, with street-style plates set down in the middle for everyone, enough for a light dinner. Weekends usually bring a DJ, though no line-up is posted, so ask if you want a music night. Smart casual is the advice from The Rooftop Guide; if rain sets in, the hotel's indoor bar, YY, is the fallback. On a clear evening, walk round the lake to Hang Dau and Ma May to enter the Old Quarter.

Weeknd Hanoi now sits at 15 Ly Thuong Kiet, in Cua Nam just below Hoan Kiem Lake. That puts it outside the Old Quarter core, but still five to eight minutes on foot from the lake. The room is small, around two hundred people, and the music stays on Hip-hop, R&B and Trap, with Deep House kept for the opening and the closing stretch. This is where NATIVES happens, a series that brings Hanoi's hip-hop crowd together, along with WEEKND TUNE IN, a run of theme nights planned by the club's residents.

If you head south of the lake, Weeknd works as the final stop. It opens Thursday to Sunday only, 8 PM to 3 AM, and the main set begins around 10:30 PM. Block B is on the same street and Cosmos Club is on Trang Tien, all in the same ward, so two of the three fit into one night. Streetwear is welcome; just leave the flip-flops, vests and sports shorts at the hotel.

Entropy Cocktail Club is at 15 Dao Duy Tu, a small street that links up with Ta Hien and Ma May; together the three make up the busiest cluster of night venues in Hanoi. The bar sits inside a traditional Old Quarter house. It is a medium-sized room with the music turned down to background level, so you can hold a conversation. The attention goes to the counter and the team behind it and their signature drinks, not to a big sound system, which makes it a good pause between two louder stops.

On this route Entropy is the sit-down break. Turn off Ta Hien and you are there; stay for a while, then continue to 1900 or back to Ma May. The street is narrow, so park in the surrounding area and walk in. Seats are limited and late arrivals at the weekend may find it full. Opening hours have not been confirmed to us yet, so check before you go.

Emoi Izakaya is at 63 Ham Long Street in Cua Nam Ward (Hang Bai Ward before July 2025), about a kilometre from Hoan Kiem Lake. Paper lanterns lettered in Japanese crowd the ceiling, one wall is covered in wooden ema plaques, each carrying a wish written by a guest, and a shrine roof outlined in red light stands in the middle of the room. The kitchen sends out sashimi, nigiri, gunkan, hand rolls, teriyaki eel, wagyu carpaccio and grilled skewers, and a new seasonal menu with Vietnamese touches arrives every quarter.

Open 6 PM to 12:30 AM daily, Emoi is the route's Japanese dinner stop, handy if you are south of the lake. The soundtrack is 1980s Japanese city pop, jazz and soul, and later in the evening a DJ plays live. Ham Long is further from the Old Quarter core, a few minutes by Grab or taxi, and motorbikes park at the door. Birthdays come with a Happy Birthday paper fan and a light-up sign.

The Hudson Rooms is the bar at the very top of Capella Hanoi, whose address is No. 11 Le Phung Hieu, in the French Quarter on the east side of the lake. Bill Bensley imagined the hotel as a grand old theatre; up on the roof the mood shifts to 1920s New York Art Deco, all bronze mirrors, marble and a golden glow. Asia's 50 Best Bars put it at No. 46 in 2026, and Tatler Best of Vietnam 2026 chose it for service.

On this route it is the dressed-up stop before the streets: official hours are not published, but the fixed point is the red carpet rolled out at 9:30 PM each night, so go up a little earlier. By day the room is an oyster bar; after dark it becomes a mixology bar with a seasonal list, and behind it hides Track 61, reached only by solving a puzzle. There is no DJ, so smart clothes fit. From Capella the lake and Trang Tien are a short walk, which makes a jazz set at Binh Minh or a club around Cua Nam an easy next move.

The Player is at 9A Tong Duy Tan, the late-night food street on the western edge of the Old Quarter near Train Street, only a few doors from Nê, so the two sit practically side by side. Inside it is dark-toned, with amber light glowing off wooden shelves, leather sofas and a line of high stools along the counter. Sources list different opening hours, so ask for the exact time when you book; the bar itself recommends coming once night has fallen.

On this route The Player is the slow stop after dinner on Tong Duy Tan: jazz, funk, soul and deep house at talking volume, with no DJ or band calendar. The kitchen only does nibbles, so eat at one of the street's food stalls first. Counter fans should come early, and groups should call ahead to keep a sofa. From here the Ma May and Ta Hien core is a few minutes by taxi, or a longer walk.

Ignite Sky Bar sits on top of the Peridot Grand hotel at 33 Duong Thanh, on the western side of the Old Quarter. The hotel's infinity pool and its Olivine restaurant share the roof; if you hope to swim as an outside guest, ask first. Opening at 4 PM and closing at midnight, it is among the early terraces on this route, along with Cloud Sky Bar on nearby Hang Da; only Upper Haven opens sooner.

On this route Ignite suits groups who want music from the start: most evenings feature a DJ or band, now and then joined by a saxophonist. When fireworks light up the lake on public holidays, Peridot Grand sells a viewing package from the roof, so reserve early. Sharing plates take the edge off hunger before you head into the streets, and last orders are at 11:30 PM. Ta Hien and Ma May are not far from Duong Thanh, on foot or by taxi.

You will find Block B at No. 2 Ly Thuong Kiet, Cua Nam Ward, around 300 metres from the Hanoi Opera House. Cosmos Club on Trang Tien is also a few minutes' walk from the Opera House, so the two pair easily as one stop south of the lake. The room is small and enclosed: a DJ booth faced in white tiles stands in the middle of the floor, a candle burns on every table, the floor is black-and-white check and the LED screen on the vaulted ceiling shows the BLOCKB name. Each night has a different DJ and MC line-up.

Monday, Wednesday and Sunday run 9 PM to 3 AM. Tuesday starts an hour sooner, at 8 PM, and from Thursday to Saturday the doors stay open until 4 AM. Fit Check Day on Wednesday celebrates street style, and Friday's Spotlight brings in a guest artist; the programme can change week to week. Tables are few, so book this stop before you set off on your walk.

MidNight Club is on the second floor of 46 Ma May, between Hybra Ultra Lounge at No. 32 and The Diners Club at No. 56, so all three sit on one row. Upstairs is a single floor for around two hundred people. Hip-hop is the core of the music, with House and EDM remixes in between, and guest DJs from Vietnam and abroad change every week. Ta Hien and Hoan Kiem Lake are each about five minutes away on foot.

MidNight opens 9 PM to 4:30 AM every night, holidays included, which is why it is usually where an Old Quarter loop ends. The floor gets busy from around 11 PM. The club applies smart casual, trousers or a skirt with closed shoes, so if you are coming straight from the walking street in flip-flops and shorts, plan a change. Book a day ahead for weekends.

Cosmos Club is at 21 Trang Tien, which links the lake with the Opera House: about five minutes on foot from the lake and three from the Opera House. The room has a space theme. Its domed ceiling is a curved LED screen with an orbit symbol drifting across, a column of linked light rings hangs in mid-air and the DJ works from the middle of the dance floor. The residents play House, Tech House and EDM, and the calendar adds guest DJ nights and theme parties.

Cosmos is open Tuesday through Sunday, 9 PM to 4 AM, with Monday as its day off, worth remembering if your Old Quarter night falls early in the week. Trang Tien is a main street and easy to find, but at weekends the lake area turns into a pedestrian zone with timed vehicle access, so drivers should park on the outer edge. The logo says “Cosmos”; many people call it “Cosmo”.
